Abstract

   This study investigates the impact of social media on English vocabulary acquisition among English major students at the Faculty of Education, Misurata University. As social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube become an integral part of students’ daily lives, they expose users to a wide range of English vocabulary in both formal and informal contexts. The study adopts a quantitative method, using a structured questionnaire distributed to 80 students from various academic levels. The findings reveal that a majority of students perceive social media as beneficial tool for improving their vocabulary. They often use words and expressions learned through social medial in their speaking and writing tasks. However, some challenges were also noted, such as confusion between informal and formal vocabulary. The study concludes that social media can serve as an effective supplementary resource for vocabulary development when used thoughtfully. It recommends integrating social media into language learning strategies to maximize its educational benefits.
