Abstract

This research examines maritime security in Libya, highlighting traditional and non-traditional threats such as maritime disputes, irregular migration, piracy, environmental degradation, and transnational organized crime. It analyzes the impact of international and regional interests on Libya's maritime security landscape and sovereignty over its marine resources. The study reveals that Libya's institutional and regulatory capacity constraints hinder its ability to effectively address these threats. However, it underscores the importance of international and regional cooperation in bolstering maritime security. The research concludes that Libya needs to develop its legal framework, enhance its institutional capabilities, and adopt integrated strategies to tackle maritime security challenges while ensuring environmental sustainability and protection of marine resources. It offers policy recommendations for Libyan authorities to strengthen maritime governance and ensure national and regional security.
