Obstacles to security and peace and their repercussions on the Sahel and Sahara region

Abstract

The issue of security and social peace in the Sahel and Sahara region is of paramount importance due to its impact on all countries in the region, and consequently on European countries, at all political, economic, social, and security levels, particularly with regard to terrorism, crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other related issues. With the increasing severity of security challenges, it has become essential for countries to work on protecting their national security and finding solutions to these security threats. The Sahel and Sahara region extends along the entire desert belt from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Red Sea in the east, and includes several countries, including North African countries such as Senegal, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Chad, Sudan, and Burkina Faso. The countries of the region share many similarities, including their size, economic conditions, the escalation of armed conflicts, and the exacerbation of security disputes.
